A Chorus of War
Glossary

White Nytewood Logo

Place and Events:

Ardura - (ar - dur - ah) The continent of Ardura. The westernmost of the three known continents of The Remembered Lands.

Edura - (eh - dur - ah) The continent of Edura. The easternmost of the three known continents of The Remembered Lands.

Daggland - (dayg - land) A group of islands to the far north. Inhabited by an ancient race of reavers and warriors who once crafted unbreakable steel and have since fallen to a lesser state.

The Fells - The northernmost kingdom of Ardura. Mostly inhabited by nomadic, warring clans. Dominated by the overwhelming shadow of the ancient castle Kallahorn, and its dark secrets.

Mal Hallow - (mAL hAL - oh) A land of haunted arbors, magic hills, Standing Stones, and rushing rivers. Protected from the south by the great Lovasi castle of Mammoth’s Head, built at the crossing of one of few passable fords in the rushing White River. The Mal people have lived here since the start of time. The kingdom is governed by many ruling Lords who have sworn fealty to the king of Mal Hallow, James Culdaine.

Ayeland -  (AIL - ind) The largest kingdom in Ardura. A land of bounty and abundance. Ruled by the Alder dynasty for the last seventy years from the Lovasi castle known as The Bloodwall, in the city of Solace.

The Glenn - A kingdom in the northwest of Ardura. Known for its lush arbor and the Lovasi castle Stone Tree in the city of Elurra that was built therein. The Brynmor dynasty has ruled the kingdom for the last sixty years. The Glenn is also well known for its massive destrier war horses that feed on dead flesh, and the speed and strength that the beasts give to their army.

The Hesterlands - The Hesterlands, formerly known as Rhosanti, is the crown jewel of Ardura. Located at the Bay of Lions, at the mouth of the Roaring Sea, The Hesterlands, and their rulers, the Royal Hesters, are able to control all seafaring trade to Ayeland, and therefore the rest of the north.

Kelson the conqueror called Rhosanti home, and built himself a fortress there that is considered his masterpiece. Known as Kelson’s Keep, the castle stands thousands of feet tall, and looms over the grand city of Hest, overlooking the strait of Lions and the Roaring Sea. Though it is the most fortified castle in all of the Remembered Lands, it has long been the target of conquest and has seen many rulers over its long centuries of existence. In those years, many secrets were lost and found behind the walls and in the dungeons of Kelson’s Keep.

Ryne - The Island of Ryne has long been shunned by the mainlanders, considered strange and dangerous, and too much of a risk to mine the abundance of tin and iron in the hills and mountains there. The Nith dynasty has ruled happily on the island for a few hundred years, co-existing with the strange race of transporters from the Raven’s Guild, and working eldritch rituals with the Warlocks to ensure their safety from the outside world. The Niths have never been involved in any major war, and only Kelson was able to conquer them.

Esher - The southernmost kingdom of Ardura, Esher is known for its hot and dry weather, and the incredibly lush valley along the Esheri Rush. A long history of infighting between the ruling Houses of Serahnon and of Marwen has left Esher wartorn and grief stricken. Long centuries of famine and corruption have destroyed what was once Ardura’s richest, and most beautiful kingdom.

Lavesh - An island off the southern coast of Ayeland and the west coast of Esher. Known for its tri-magistrate ruling structure and an abundance in gold, salt, and jewels. Lavesh is a peaceful state, never involving itself in foreign wars but to trade and profit from them. Though the same cannot be said about civil wars, for Lavesh is famous for its bands of sellswords, a business that rose up around the constant warring of the magistrates. Though constant, these civil wars rarely result in any significant loss or gain.

The Starfall - An event that destroyed the great empire of Yehven around four thousand years ago. An Abori mage used magics to bring a star down on the Golden City of Ailar, in Yehven. The impact turned the area around Ailar to dust and sent the world into many years of darkness.

Ox’olin - A future apocalyptic event that the people of Daggland have feared for centuries, resulting in Father Sky falling down to meet Mother Earth once again. The Dagglandic prophets fear that it is closer than ever.

The Demhoni: A group of fungus infested cannibals from the deep north. Shrouded in ancient myth, the Demhoni believe they must eat the bodies of other Humans to absorb their strength.

Non-Human Races:

Druids: The old blood of the ancient Mal. Even The Mal know little about the druids, other than they built the Standing Stones using magics they stole from Old Yehven. Mages and seers were once common amongst the Druids when their blood was pure, but as they have diluted their blood over generations, folk have forgotten them.

El’vie: (Ell-vee) Merrmonsters that live in the Lake of Pool. They are almost more fishlike than they are human. They speak in a twittering tongue lost on most ears. The druids said the el’vie have always been there, born out of the waters that surround the world tree. Their souls are bound to it. They pay no attention to others, and they rarely leave their Pool except to mate with humans or if they feel threatened.

Giy’er: (Guy-err) Massive, giant like creatures that live in wide open spaces, usually at the foot of mountains or hills or at the mouths of arbors so they can easily catch game animals. Hawka: (Hah-kah) Wolfish, elk-like carnivores that roam the mountains and the hills. They eat what they see and they are always hungry. They are afraid of arbors and the dead souls that lurk in them.

Rangers: Descendants of the E’daru–the first skinchanger. (Also known as, greenhoods, skincrawlers, skinchangers, bodysnatchers.) Rangers have the ability to warg into animals. Common folk know little about the details, for most fear going near them. They worship the Maw god, and practice sacrifice regularly.

The Peoples of Old:

Warlocks: The survivors of Old Yehven. A race of folk known to have used dangerous and unpredictable magics to build grand empires. They seem to have used their magics to alter their lifespans and can live for many thousands of years.

Draku: The dragon peoples of old. Thought to be extinct. A race so similar to humans that there is no difference in appearance. What separated the Draku from regular humans was their resistance and seeming insatiability to flame, and their ability to communicate with the great wise dragons.

Sorcerers: A race believed to have existed even before the Warlocks of Yehven. Little to nothing is known of them.

The Soothsayers: A mysterious group of truth seers with eldritch origins surrounding their existence. Rarely ever seen, the Soothsayers spend their time hidden in wicked groves and crooked gardens enriched with their black magics to protect themselves.
